When we talk about speed and quality in the consolidation process, the data procurement process plays a special role.
This process is crucial in determining when you can start the actual consolidation work. Depending on the SAP consolidation solution used, you have various options for data provision here.
The type of data sources can also be a decisive factor in determining the approach. Is it S/4HANA or still SAP ECC? Are non-SAP systems used? What about master data harmonization? Are management reporting needs addressed?
This is NOT about the provision of flat files. This is a matter of course that every consolidation system offers. It is about the smoothest possible process without media disruptions - i.e. actually at the "push of a button".

Data Provision for S/4HANA® Finance for Group Reporting
Here is a schematic overview of the data collection options offered by Group Reporting. Not every approach is always the best solution, and it also depends on the applications used (such as GRDC—Group Reporting Data Collection or SAP Analytics Cloud®).
Automated Data Collection for SAP BCS/4HANA or SAP SEM-BCS
In the SAP® Strategic Enterprise Management Business Consolidation System —also known as SAP® Business Consolidation for SAP BW/4HANA —the process of automatically loading data via BW has become standard practice. For this purpose, a data source (aDSO) is set up in BW for both systems, which acts as the source database for the BCS. This data source can fill the BCS directly or through the option of further selection steps. This is known to the specialist area as "Load from Datastream".
In both cases, however, it is crucial that the above-mentioned data source is enriched in advance by further loading processes in BW - so-called mapping.
This involves mapping the accounts of the various source systems to the standardized group chart of accounts or adequately providing consolidation transaction types. In any case, this process should be supported by meaningful reporting and monitoring in order to be able to react to errors before the data is transferred to the consolidation solution.
Automated Data Collection for SAP BPC
As for the BSC, the automatic procurement of data for the BPC is also a BW-supported process and is basically identical to the process described above.
Only in the BPC do we then speak of the use of corresponding data packets ("loading from info provider").
