SAP EC-CS
Usage rights end December 2025 - Avoid license violations and start your migration now! Contact usSAP end-of-use rule
SAP has assigned consolidation (EC-CS) and consolidation preparations to the so-called compatibility scope of SAP S/4HANA.
This is delivered with limited usage rights and ends on fixed dates:
- Under SAP ERP 6.0. EC-CS may only be used until December 31, 2027. (See SAP Note 1223308)
- Under SAP S/4HANA, EC-CS is only available as part of the compatibility scope up to December 31, 2025 can be used. An extension of the deadline until the end of 2027 is possible with the licensing of SAP S/4HANA for Group Reporting. (See SAP Notes 2269324 and 2371973)
The end of EC-CS is official – what does this mean for your company?
For decades, EC-CS (Enterprise Controlling Consolidation System) has been a reliable tool for group consolidation in SAP systems. Now it is clear: SAP is phasing out EC-CS. This means that companies need to realign their consolidation strategy.
For companies on SAP ERP 6.0:
- EC-CS may no longer be used after 2025.
- When switching to S/4HANA, a new consolidation solution must be introduced.
- The continuation of EC-CS in S/4HANA is not permitted.
For companies on SAP S/4HANA:
- EC-CS can currently still be used – but only until the end of 2027
- In newer S/4HANA versions, SAP allows a transition phase in which EC-CS and Group Reporting can be operated in parallel.
- This allows you to organize your migration gradually and risk-free.
Your options for action
Companies should make a strategic decision now on how they will structure their group consolidation in the future. SAP offers several clearly defined alternatives for this – depending on the system landscape, data model and individual requirements.
The most important options at a glance:
| SAP consolidation solution | Brief description | End of maintenance |
| SAP Group Reporting | Strategic SAP standard solution for consolidation in S/4HANA. Integrated into the Universal Journal, real-time consolidation, future focus | Not planned |
| SAP BCS/4HANA | Further development of the proven BCS approach in the HANA environment. Ideal for companies with an established BW architecture. | 2040 |
| SAP BPC on BW/4HANA | Flexible, planning and consolidation-capable solution based on BW/4HANA. Suitable for individual requirements and planning scenarios | 2040 |
- Those who migrate early will benefit from stable systems, better performance and clear project timeframes before capacities become scarce in 2026/2027.
Avoid compliance violations
After the specified end of use, EC-CS is no longer covered by the SAP license conditions – even if the system continues to function technically. Such a license or compliance violation can have considerable consequences during an SAP license audit:
- Re-licensing or contractual penalties: SAP can take legal action retroactively for unlawful use.
- Loss of support and maintenance: Systems with components that are no longer licensed are no longer covered by official SAP support.
- Audit and reputational risks: Auditors and internal audits can object to breaches of license conditions – with possible effects on certifications or reporting.
A timely switch to SAP S/4HANA for Group Reporting, BCS/4HANA or BPC on BW/4HANA ensures that your company remains license-compliant, audit-proof and audit-capable*.
*Alternatively, SAP allows further use of EC-CS until the end of 2030 under the condition of an S/4HANA Private Cloud Subscription running until December 31, 2027. (See SAP note 2269324)
