EC-CS is still used by many SAP customers and has proven to be stable and with a balanced range of functions.
However, with the introduction of S/4HANA, customers are now faced with the decision of how to proceed with EC-CS.
This applies to SAP customers who have made the switch to S/4HANA in a brownfield approach and are currently still using EC-CS for consolidation.
The other group are customers who have not yet switched to S/4HANA and are still using EC-CS.
For all S/4HANA customers, please note that SAP only grants the right to use EC-CS until December 31, 2027(note 2371973).
For customers who are still on SAP ERP 6.0 and are planning to migrate to S/4HANA, the above restriction of the right of use also raises questions.
In general, however, EC-CS in the context of ERP 6.0 is under maintenance until 2027 – or extended until 2030(note 1223308).
Here, SAP offers a migration scenario that allows the parallel use of EC-CS and Group Reporting .
The procedure is described in detail by SAP.
Due to the end of use of EC-CS, the migration should be implemented by the end of 2025.
Customers on SAP ERP still have time to make the changeover.
However, one thing is already clear: continuing to use EC-CS as part of the conversion to S/4HANA is not an option.
Under these conditions, questions also arise regarding the type and method of migration (brownfield, bluefield, greenfield), which must be considered in this context.
Even if Group Reporting is not an option for these customers, SAP offers alternative options.
These include BCS/4HANA or BPC on BW/4HANA, each with promised maintenance until 2040, as well as Group Reporting.
